Clock and watch repair and restoration
Mike has been a serious student of all things mechanical for 40 years. His interest and work in clockwork mechanisms actually began in the 1980’s as a fuel register technician. Much more recently, however, he served an apprenticeship under Jim Hartman of The Clockworks of Jacksonville. Upon receiving Jim’s blessing and becoming a Journeyman, Mike joined the Clockworks team as an independent associate and currently handles service calls and performs shopwork in his own location under Master Jim Hartman. The team repairs Grandfather clocks, mantle clocks, 400 day clocks, cuckoo clocks and most brands of watches. In addition to the movement work, Mike repairs and restores the clock cases as well.
RelicSmithing
Relicsmithing is a term that means taking a broken historical item, fabricating parts if necessary, repairing it so that it works again properly and finally giving it just a little cosmetic love. Only in certain circumstances should a valuable antique be subjected to complete restoration, most of the time what is known as a “sympathetic restoration” is in order. This means to touch up the paint or polish the surface of wood or metal, repair any breaks or cracks, but not to try to make it look new again. After all, part of the point is that an antique is a survivor-it is going to have a few wrinkles! Mike and Lisa have returned much that was once sad and abandoned back into something refreshed and cherished and can do the same for your treasured heirloom.
Genealogical Services
Mike, Lisa and research assistant Staci are all lovers of family history. The discovery of the lives your ancestors lived gives a special kind of warm satisfaction. We have spent much time over the last 20 years learning the ins and outs of professional genealogy. We have recently realized that many folks who have been left an inheritance of some sort actually know very little beyond the great-grandparent level about who originally owned their item. We therefore offer our expertise in this field for those who wish to know the complete story!
Antique sales and acquisitions
We are also dealers in clocks and antiques and are constantly adding to our inventory. If you have items you are thinking of selling, then consider contacting us for an offer. We list the items we have for sale on the store page on this website, then market via social media and other online locations. Although we do not have a brick and mortar “store”, we are happy to show anything by appointment at our home shop.
